Sesta di Sopra

Sesta di Sopra is een boutique-winery ten zuiden van Montalcino op ongeveer 4 km van Castelnuovo dell'Abate in Toscane. Het logo bestaat uit een Etruskisch symbool dat de zon voorstelt. In 1980 werd dit domein overgenomen door Ettore en Enrica Spina. Ze restaureerden eerst de boerderij evenals de olijfgaard. Niet lang daarna werd een nieuwe wijngaard aangelegd, snel gevolgd door een tweede perceel, dit met een totale oppervlakte van 2 hectare. Onnodig te zeggen dat de wijnen uiterst exclusief zijn gezien de kleine opbrengst. Ook bij de internationale wijnpers scoort Sesta di Sopra uitstekend! Parker, Wine Spectator, James Suckling, Wine Enthusiast,... Scores van 92/100 en meer! Top uit Montalcino!

The aromas jump out with ripe berries, nutmeg, sweet potato and ginger. Full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins. Excellent energy here with a solid structure and a unique flavor profile.

Here's a new special section of Sangiovese from Sesta di Sopra. The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Magistra shows a slightly bigger constitution, but not by much, compared to the 2018 Brunello annata. The Magistra is also more open-knit in terms of texture, with broader brush strokes of dark fruit, dried cherry, smoke and spice. The general intensity has been taken up a notch, and the wine proves quite open and easy to read, even at the time of its release. A mere 1,000 bottles were made.
