Helder, lichtgeel met gouden schittering. Briljante, stijlvolle, complexe neus met rijp wit steenfruit, biscuit amandel en mineralen. Romige textuur met perfecte balans tussen concentratie en finesse, de fijnste Franse eik perfect geïntegreerd. Het charmante koppel Tim en Judy Finn is in Nieuw-Zeeland erg geliefd. Beide kunnen beschouwd worden als topchefs maar dan wel op het gebied van wijn. Een grote harem beschermelingen die hun leerschool doorliepen op Neudorf werkt nu voor eigen rekening. Ze spreken nog steeds met extreem veel respect over Tim en Judy. Wanneer je het domeintje binnenrijdt, krijg je dadelijk het goede gevoel van huiselijkheid en gezelligheid. Dit piepklein domein met een schat aan kostbare wijngaarden brengt reeds meer dan 20 jaar wijnen van zeer hoog niveau en wordt terecht beschouwd als een ‘New Zealand-classic’. Wijnen met een hoog charismagehalte! “Neudorf is a superlative winery producing truly unique and complex wines” Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate “The first wine I have ever scored 100 points is Neudorf Moutere Chardonnay 2014. ‘Bob Campbell MW Bob Campbell: ‘Every wine region needs a hero and Neudorf is certainly Nelson’s.’

    While still rather closed, this young pup is all about its supple, cuddle-worthy midpalate, which offers plenty of weight to get your mouth around; let's face it, cuddles from skinny people (of which I am one) suck compared to those with flesh on their bones, and the joy of the Nelson's Moutere hills is that flesh. The clay gravels of this subregion imbue its wines with roundness. The tannins are abundant and resolved, with a fine cocoa-powder-like texture that resides on the drawn-out finish along with a fragrance of black tea, spices, duck and plum sauce.

    The 2020 Chardonnay Home Block Moutere is a little more than medium in weight, but it is harnessed by tension and power. As always, it's wild-fermented in barrel with just 10% new wood, which marks a significant reduction over the past decade, when 25-30% was the norm. The white stone fruit leads, while the nutty oak and lees-derived pastry notes are the backing singers. There's also an excellent track of acidity that pulls the wine through, and a reasonable 13.5% alcohol that is the result of a decision to pick earlier in recent years, maintaining greater energy and firmness.

    Moutere clay gravel soils, wild ferment in barrel (10% new). This is very fine on the nose with some mealy, nutty, spicy notes as well as pear, apple and citrus. The palate is concentrated and dense with some richness to the pear and citrus fruit, with a bready, nutty character from the barrel fermentation and some lovely pear and peach notes. Nice intensity here, finishing spicy and intense. Serious stuff with great potential, but you can broach it now.
