Moss Wood, geplant in 1969, is één van de pioniers van de Margaret River-wijnstreek, gelegen in de noordelijke subregio van Wilyabrup, West-Australië. Clare & Keith Mugford, wijnbouwers en eigenaren, maken sinds respectievelijk 1984 en 1979 wijn op het kleine Moss Wood. Hun veeleisende oog voor detail zorgt voor de productie van druiven van exceptionele kwaliteit. Jaar in jaar uit onderscheiden de fijne wijnen zich door hun consistentie en uitzonderlijk bewaarpotentieel. Reeds jaren draagt de Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon de titel als allerbeste van Australië. De namen Moss Wood & Mugford staan synoniem voor compromisloze kwaliteit.

    Wine Orbit
    Exquisitely composed and expressed, the wine shows Granny Smith apple, lemon pith, white flesh nectarine and lime peel characters with a hint of oatmeal complexity. The palate is superbly weighted and concentrated with outstanding definition and purity as well as delicate complexity, brilliantly structured by firm acidity. This is undeniably premier league sauvignon blanc offering stunning precision and a great degree of elegance.

    Aromas of ripe almost sweet goosberry and lemon, there’s a distinctive mineral quality suggesting sand and salt, sea air and clay. A layer of wood spice and lees scents layer in complexity and breadth. On the palate – excellent with a coarse-silk texture then contrasting acidity and a core of citrus then gosseberry and hay and stone fruit and apple. Oak and acidity along with the brief skin-contact time provide the core foundation adding mouthfeel and length. Youthful, salivatine with a light saline note, fresh and lengthy. A wine for enjoyment today or best from 2023 through 2029.

    This is the third vintage of Elsa Moss Wood are now picking the grapes later to introduce more passion fruit and guava complexity. The wine was fermented and matured in 228 litre French oak barrels (10% new). A barrel-fermented sauvignon blanc with gooseberry and green capsicum flavours together with riper passionfruit and guava characters. Lively, tawngy and quite complex wine with good varietal identity and appealing energy and freshness. Oak influence is subtle and effective.
