Puramun

Winemaker Jose ‘Pepe’ Galante: “Puramun (harvest in native Valle
de Uco inhabitants language) is my and my family’s tribute to Argentine
wines. Each harvest is a new challenge. A time for searching and finding.
Nothing is the same, everything changes: the climate, the soil, the grapes,
and even ourselves. Year after year we trek a new road, a labyrinth
of grapevines that express through their precious fruit our devotion
to the Valle de Uco terroir. After forty years making internationally
award-winning wines, we invite you to discover in each bottle of Puramun
the result of this passionate and endless search.”

There is no need to explain what makes the 2013 Co-Fermented peculiar. It's the blend of 70% Malbec with 30% Petit Verdot. There are some dark fruit and meaty aromas that lead into a complex palate with quite a lot of power and plenty of tannins. Perhaps the Petit Verdot added to the tannins and are a little too present at this point in time. The wine matured in French oak barrels for one year, it feels quite smoky compared with the pure Malbec, and still needs time to absorb the oak.
Puramun was only created in 2011 in Tupungato and are already in these pages, with the one wine I tasted leaving a good impression. It's the private project of Jos "Pepe" Galante, Salentein's winemaker and Catena's winemaker form 1976 to 2010! A new old name to watch!
