    Parker
Deep purple black in color, the 2020 Bonalgue gives up notes of prunes, blueberry compote and raspberry pie, plus hints of hoisin, incense and dusty soil The medium to full bodied palate is packed with ripe black fruits and loads of exotic spice accents, framed by chewy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing with a peppery kick.

    The Wine Independent
A blend of 90 Merlot and 10 Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Bonalgue is deep garnet purple in color It waltzes out with carefree, open knit scents of crushed black cherries, boysenberries, and fresh plums, plus hints of rose oil, jasmine tea, and underbrush with a hint of tar The full bodied palate is seductively fruity, with fine grained tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and fragrant.

    The Wine Doctor
Wearing a new upmarket label, the 2020 Bonalgue comes mostly from Merlot vines planted on gravelly and sandy soils with deeper seams of clay, although there is also a small plot of Cabernet Franc included in the blend for the first time (although there was Cabernet Franc in the blend, albeit from a different parcel, many years ago) I admire the aromatics here, which seem more focused than the Bonalgue of old, with bright bilberry and blackberry notes, along with violets, soot and black bean This is matched by an elegantly creamed palate, with velvety blackcurrant and damson fruits, touches of sous bois toast and tobacco, with a rich wrapping of dense, ripe and tightly knit tannins A really convincing finish here this is a fabulous example of what can be achieved at Bonalgue It should be good for drinking over the next ten or fifteen years The élevage was in 40 new oak, and the alcohol is 14,5%.
